Hello all! This is also posted on my Patreon. March is already a frenzy of creativity, and I’m thrilled with the inspiration that’s been streaming into my imagination.
These days, you see a lot of “card of the day” content. I love that, and the practice can help set a rewarding contemplative tone for the day. The exercise also gives an assist to broadening your knowledge of and relationship with the cards.
This post is an introduction to what will be a series of “___ of the day” exercises, except not using the tarot (although I might pop a card of the day post in there now and again). This won't be an everyday routine, just when the mood strikes.
How one approaches the ___ of the day game is important. I’m using the word augur because I have a fondness for that particular word, but in no way is the ___ of the day meant to be an omen or prophesy for the day ahead (although there are times when it is one, and the syncs do line up that way.) The best approaches are those that avoid the pitfalls of prediction and engage an individual’s imagination with the goal of play. A brief list of alternatives:
· Creative prompt for writing, art, music or any form of creative expression
· An obscure or tantalizing reference that sends you down an intriguing rabbit hole of research
· An idea to contemplate or on which to meditate
· A communication from your ancestors, higher self, spirit allies, etc.
· A playful suggestion to use the augur as a rudder of inspiration just for fun, and then remain alert to the syncs that arrive throughout the day
The first bullet point is self-explanatory.
The second point frequently occurs for me when using a book to select the augur. Could be a snippet from any book or one on specific topics, for example, the language of flowers, the symbolism of animals, Aesop’s Fables, obscure fairytales, and so on. They key is the randomness.
The third point is self-explanatory.
The fourth point can be a potent experience depending on your personal practice connected to your ancestors and the realm of spirit. For me, when my ancestors, higher self, or guides are communicating through the augur of the day, the overall tone can sometimes be quite dire or dark. And that’s when I know I’m being made fun of, because warnings or cautions never come through an augur of the day for me. A dire augur usually indicates I’ve allowed a doom-slanted perspective to color my thinking. It puts me on notice that I’ve been wading through murky emotional waters or indulging in pity parties about life events.
The final point is by far the most delightful to experience. Just a random piece from a random book, sending you on a build your own adventure exercise for the day.
The only hard and fast rule about playing the Augur of the Day game is to have fun. The not-so-hidden benefit is you’re also fine-tuning your intuition, expanding your imaginative boundaries, and leveling up in your ability to command and shape your own reality as you move through the playing fields of the wider world.
